United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women (UMW) is a lay women’s organization within each congregation. The General Conference of the United Methodist Church has declared that “in every local church there shall be an organized unit of UMW”. The organized unit of UMW shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministeries of the Church. The UMW of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Mathews, LA periodically, usually after the Sunday church service.

In 2011, the chapter was designated a Mission Today Unit and 5-star Mission Giving Unit. Missions supported by the Mathews UMW included the following:
  • Raceland, LA food bank
  • McDonald’s United Methodist Children’s Services
  • United Methodist Children’s Homes
  • Overseas Heifer Project
  • Collection of toiletries for local nursing home
